Chapter 12 Summary

My Mother's Death

Upon returning to Saudi Arabia, my mother had a severe stroke and could neither speak nor walk again. “I pondered my life with my parents. It was interesting. The first time we went to Saudi Arabia, my father had a heart attack and died within a half an hour.” and “Now, ten years later, I was returning to Saudi Arabia for the second time and just before leaving my mother had a stroke. I know there are no coincidences, so what was I trying to say to myself? Why did each of my parents have a major event happen in their health history, each time I decided to leave for Saudi Arabia?”

In this chapter I recount my connection to my mother and the experience I had with her declining health. This review takes the reader on my personal journey with mother illness and my own thoughts and feelings on how her new journey affected the core of my being. In one paragraph I state,

I think we all remain children until one of our parents die. In the death of a parent we are forced to begin our maturing process into the adult human world. But, there is still time, we have a second parent. However, when two parents die or the second parent is very ill, you begin to realize how dependent you have been on their love and guidance. You realize how much you will miss these beautiful powerful beings that have been there your entire life. I was looking at the next step in my maturing and my growth process. How would I fare?

This chapter ends with my mother’s death and my ability to return to the moment of her final stroke to interact with her journey out of her body and beyond.
